Collection: 'The Taking Stock' collection

The 'Taking Stock' collection aims to draw the viewer towards the intricacies and form of each piece. Taking stock is a term used to pause and reflect, a moment of contemplation.

Comprising of 7 pieces, this body of work is about slowing down and taking the time to just be, in the moment.

Each piece pays homage to our old homes whether they have been torn down and demolished or just left in a state of disrepair. The shapes, lines, and forms created in each piece provide a modern twist to the materials that were once used in a more traditional constructed form. The paintwork on each piece, is completely original, almost like a time capsule from years ago.

Sophie’s work fundamentally revolves around creating new life from old house materials, infused with a strong sense of activism. She invites viewers to reflect on the significance of preservation and renovation in a rapidly modernising and gentrifying world, where the history of our New Zealand homes is increasingly at risk of being erased.
