Intertwined

Constructed from reclaimed floorboards and weatherboards salvaged from New Zealand villas and bungalows, many over a century old, this sculpture returns native timber to an organic, vine-like form. The work traces the material's journey from forest to architecture and back into sculptural form, acknowledging that beneath its history as a building material, it remains part of the natural world.

The weathered surfaces, grain and marks of use carry memories of both landscape and home, revealing the enduring relationship between material and origin. As part of my practice, I see it as my responsibility to give these timbers a new life, honouring New Zealand's built heritage while encouraging care for the natural environment in an era of rapid gentrification and loss.
